How can i catch an alligator?

so my father would sometimes tell me stories about him growing up hunting alligators with his friends in a river behind his house. and since its almost fathers day, i though it would be pretty cool if me and him did some hunting. i was thinking about getting a gator and a hog, kind of like a father son trip for the night. he knows how to catch the gators, but i need an idea of how its done so i can pick a good place and get the supply’s. As for the hog, i know how its done. get my 12 gauge and a box of slugs and hit the road. thank you lots for your help. it is very appreciated.

P.S. dont tell me any legal places to get it done, cause im not spending 3000 dollars on a gator.

dum dum was on the right track to catching an alligator on hook and line, if that’s what you want to do, but a mustad O’shagnessy is the wrong hook. They don’t make ‘em in that size anyways, but if you insisted on baiting a hook and waiting, good luck. i’d try a hook that has less chance of breaking.

Fishing for alligator is done with a weighted treble hook. They are sighted and snagged. Perfectly legal in florida. today’s the last day to legally apply for a permit http://www.myfwc.com/WildlifeHabitats/Alligator_index.htm
Some do make their own lures, but this sounds like something you want to do in one night, so again I think your best chance is to snag one.
