Bowhunting Mule Deer?

I am planning a trip out west and cant decide if I want to bow hunt mule deer or rifle hunt them. We were going to try Western Nebraska but they claim it is pretty crowded rifle hunting. I had some people tell me that there are a lot less people bow hunting. Can you really stalk close enough to them to shoot them with a bow on the plains. I can see a in the mountains you could because there is a lot to hide behind. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Rifle hunting is easier for the hunter. You don’t really need much hunting skill to shoot an animal from over 50 yards. But to bow-hunt, you need your archery skill for shooting and stalking the animal. Some people learn quick while others take a lifetime to learn the skills to get close to the animal. I have personally stalked and got as close as a couple of feet from the animal that I was hunting. Camouflaging yourself is easier than hiding behind things. Moving slowly and taking your time will help get you close. Smell plays an important part in the hunt. Most animals can smell 20 or 30 times better than you at a greater distance.

Bow-hunters are giving a longer hunting season than gun hunting. The challenge and skills needed for the hunt are greater. What is more challenging for you?
